|New to Life At The Zoo? Why not join us on our BRAND NEW Facebook page – would LOVE to connect with you there? Or come and hang out with us on Google+!
Well… as you know, I blog over at Red Ted Art, where you will find all things crafty. It is so nice to have an “outlet” for all those other things we are doing and “issues” we are facing! So finally, I get to look at different ways to help my children improve their numeracy! Though they are still young and there is nothing to worry about, I think if you can make learning fun, then why not?!
Here is a round up of numeracy enhancing ideas:
This is one we discovered by accident and found hugely helpful and fun – the classic “join the dots” activity. There were some in one of my son’s magazine’s. We discovered two things 1) how much he loves doing them and 2) which numbers he has problems with. Read more about it!
.
Nothing like a fun little craft, that reinforces nursery rhymes and gets you doing some basic counting. Make your own “5 Little Ducks Craft” and have some numeric fun.

Another great and simple idea from In Lieu of Preschool is this quick DIY cup game to help with two digit numbers (I think this will be next on the agenda, here at the Zoo!!). Go visit to find out how to make it and use it! And check out this post for more ideas and questions you can ask.

Combine science with numeracy the way Rainy Day Mum did with this rain catcher – explore what is happening outside, look at the numbers AND practice writing it in a chart. Hop over to Rainy Day Mum for more!

Love this fun idea of playing dice bingo from Lesson’s Learnt Journal. This looks like a great idea and will get those kids having a go. You will also find Button Paperclip Number Cards, Metronome Counting (how fab to hone your listening skills?) and a Numbers Book idea. What a fantastic selection to help numeracy!
Finally an idea from The Good Long Road not only teach number recognition, but the value of money.

My pleasure! I loved your games and activities!
Love these ideas. We recently did this – http://jennifischer.blogspot.com/2012/05/1-to-10-for-tuesday-number.html – great for letting him see what number values mean!
Oh thanks for this Jen! Off to take a look now.
A very handy round up for parents. Thank you for including our shopping trip post 🙂
My pleasure, great activity!
Such good ideas! I especially love dice bingo. We’ve done dice matching with two die and an egg carton with each slot labelled, but it was a bit too advanced for my little guy. I think bingo would work better for now. Thanks for including an activity from The Good Long Road.
Thanks for sharing! Will have to check out some of the other ideas, too. Nice round-up! 🙂
