Summer Reading: Book of the Week

Book of the Week continues as part of the Summer Reading Challenge.

As always, we have been reading many favourites this week (including One Fish, Two Fish, Three Fish), but have also “discovered” some new books. One such book is:

Bear and Bird, by Gwen Millward

What a lovely little book. Before I say anything about the story, I would just like to say how much we enjoyed the illustrations. They are simply wonderful with lots of little things to find. The story is about Bear and Bird who are friends and live together. We soon find out that bear does EVERYTHING for bird. Then one winter’s night, Bird thoughtlessly puts all the fire wood on the fire. Leaving them nothing for the rest of the winter. Bear heads out to find more. But doesn’t come back. After some time Bird goes to look for him and meets other creatures of the forrest, who off to help their friends. Suddenly Bird realises what a wonderful friend Bear is and how much Bear does for him… but will he find Bear? You will have to read the book to find out!

Pip Squeak particularly likes this books. I think she is drawn to the lovely illustrations and the sweet story.

Disclosure: this book was sent to us by the publisher, but we were under no obligation to review it. The words and thoughts are our own! The book link above goes to my Amazon affiliate store, where I make a small commission from every book purchased. You will also find many kids’ book reviews over at Red Ted Art!
