15 ABC Activities for Preschoolers

As you know, I am all for learning through play. If the children are having fun and learning whilst there add it, then life is good. I am not interested in pushing my children or making the experience unpleasant. So. Please take this Learning your ABC with caution – preschoolers are young and have PLENTY of time to learn….. but they may have fun with all of these activities? Let’s see!
One thing though to remember – the best way to start with the alphabet, is to start with the child’s name. There is something irresistible about writing your own name!
We made alphabet cookies quite innocently when my son was 2.5yrs old… not even sure WHY we did. But we did. And my, did my son ADORE it. See what we did and how it went! And see the same approach over at JDaniel4sMom’s site.

Let’s not forget that the Alphabet is all about sounds too. Teachpreschool is another website full of Preschool ideas – and tons and tons on teach your ABC. Here she shares an ABC song she likes to listen to with the kids. My personal favourite is the Phonics 2 ABC song.

Similarly check out One Perfect Day for practising letters on chalkboard – a paint brush and water will suffice! Find another over at Mama Scout where the kids get to trace the whole alphabet on chalkboard.

Royal Baloo shows us to get creative with the Alphabet – other than writing a letter, how else can you recreate it? With lego, bodyparts, playdough and drawing. Check it out.

These are great ideas. I really like the ice letters, such a fun activity for when the sun is blazing. My kiddos like making letters in shaving cream!
